Exclamation Not a mod, but need admin imput

One of the traders posted the offer to trade/sell a WoW account. Just wondering at the legality of this? Blizzard is always saying not to do it, but I'm totally unsure if it is something that RM wants to be involved with.

Was a mod before, stopped logging-on for a while, but I still care about the forum. Don't want it in trouble.

Not legal what-so-ever. Blizzard will cancel the account if they are able to gather any proof of this.

By those terms of service, the ownership of the account is Blizzards (wich is ridiqulous). However, since the RM staff cannot read every and each licence agreement there is out there, and advertising to sell such an account by itself is not (should not? someone verify this) an illegal action, he can advertise all he wants.

His account will get suspended, but that is not RMs concern.

Either way (to me) the correct thing to do would be advice against anything that is illegal and against other company policies.

You do not want one post to turn into 20, then possibly more. If a kid finds out he can trade off his WoW account on this site for gaming figures, with no penalty, they'll do it. And before long, you'll get contacted by Blizzard, I guarantee it.

I think it makes more sense to play it safe and say ‘no WoW account trading’, then just ignore the issue just because it hasn’t affected R-M… yet.

That only covers the CD, manuals, etc. It does not cover the user account. The CD, manual, etc were purchased by the individual, and are property of said person, but the account created with the CD, manual, etc are all property of Blizzard, and cannot be sold or traded.

I played WoW for 4 years, and have been through all of this before.

No matter how smart kids think they are, and how far they go to try and stretch the 'User Terms', Blizzard has everything in control. You can not outwit the Blizzard lawyers.

Well, yeah, we can say "no wow-account trading" but that would also require for the staff to read every end-user licence agreement or similar piece of paperwork regarding anything and everything traded here. Thus adding a ridiqulous amount of work to the staff, work that should have been done by the trader himself.

It is much shorter and effective to say something in general to the public on verifying themselves what is legal or not for trading. Wich, i believe, has been stated in the trading rules, here:
    http://www.rogue-market.com/forums/s...62&postcount=4

as you can see, the trader takes full responsibility on what he advertises, and it is his duty to read the required laws wheter the stuff he wishes to trade is legal or not. So specifically stating that wow account trading is illegal is not required - HE HAS TO KNOW BY HIMSELF or suffer the consequences.

By allowing it, you are an accomplice.

Err, no. Read what it says there - you, and you alone are responsible for the things you write while trading, and the things you trade. The staff cannot hunt down every single piece of trading material. For some things it's obvious, for others it is not that obvious. If we miss something, it is not our fault, it is the one who posted it in the first place.

He wants to trade his account let him. Its not illegal to the site. if he was asking for porn. then it would be a RM concern. But he wants to trade that let him, we wont be responsible for the consequenses of hes actions if or when the account gets banned after it gets traded. And i do hope whoever sees that, will look at this thread and think to not trade for a wow account. besides a xbox 360, and having cod mf 2 is much better IMO

CoD is fun for about a month, then it grows old doing the same thing over and over.

To avoid headaches and further arguments. The executive decision is not to allow the trading of game accounts.

So we would have no more head bumps - or issues.
I slap mediocrity in the face - and challenge them to do better.
We fill the void where they have failed,
    And we shall succeed.

We will no longer be allowing members to trade ANY online accounts. This includes any clever little loopholes. Now staff does not have to review license agreements for any online account, and we do not have to worry about cease and desist orders from anyone.

This will also be addressed elsewhere on the site as will some other policies.Keep your eyes open. Thank you to both sides of the issue for your input.
